Interview with Horacio Pagani Founder and Chief Designer Pagani Automobili
The company was founded in 1998 by Horacio Pagani and is based in San Cesario sul Panaro, Modena, Italy.
The philosophy driving the company embraces a concept borrowed from the Renaissance and embodied by the great Leonardo da Vinci who, over 500 years ago, once stated: “Art and Science are disciplines that must walk together hand in hand.”
Pagani Automobili creates in accordance with this inspirational creed, combining technique and taste, functionality and aesthetics, handcraft work and technological know-how.
Tell us how the collaboration with DANI came about...
Our first encounter took place in 2005. We met a member of the sales team who introduced us to the company and we were impressed, so we decided to share our technical goals, commercial targets and timeframes. All of which were perfectly achieved.
In three words, what are the values that bind your company to DANI?
Dani is a concrete company that looks ahead. And this can only be achieved if there is a concrete person at the helm who stimulates his employees and gives them the opportunity to express their abilities to the utmost. Giancarlo speaks little, but every word is precious: he must be listened to carefully because you always learn from every word.
What are the strengths of the DANI leather that have won you over and made the partnership so long-lasting?
DANI is a company that invests, develops customised products, honours agreements and creates profit, as it should. And it is a forward-looking company, as I said before. Giancarlo was already telling me about sustainable processes 15 years ago, when this word was not as fashionable as it is today.
What do you think of alternative materials to leather?
The alternatives are interesting, but as I often say, as long as people in the world continue to eat meat, there will also be a need to use animal skins, and DANI knows how to do this very well. And I would add that, if we look at the production process of alternative leathers, this can require a considerable amount of synthetic raw material and energy for processing, to the detriment of sustainability. And finally, if we think of the emotions and sensations that real leather can offer, then there really is no alternative.
Finally, how do you imagine the future of hypercars?
They will increasingly be an expression of beauty, emotion and passion, and at the same time a container of the highest creativity and technology available on the market.
