Tell us how the collaboration with DANI came about?
In 2017, DANI and FNJI first met, and after two years of communication and understanding in trying out some customized products, FNJI finally began to use DANI leather in batch production on the 2020 Ridge Line new product Bean Pod Rocker Chair and the 10th Anniversary Mantis Chair.
In three words, what are the values that bind your company to DANI?
Sincerity, variety, craftsmanship.
What are the strengths of DANI leather that won you over and made the partnership possible?
- The Florida series used by FNJI is very colorful, with over 100 colors to choose from.
- Although it is a pigmented leather, the hand feeling is very delicate, and compared to pigmented leather from other brands, it retains a texture similar to full grain leather.
- The Italian leather making process is trustable.
- The certification of sustainable leather is consistent with the philosophy of FNJI.
What does it means sustainability and innovation in furniture business?
Sustainability is the rational utilization of natural resources and the reduction of environmental damage. From the perspective of the furniture industry, sustainability can be seen in two aspects. Firstly, sustainability means longer use and reduced material loss caused by manufacturing an additional new product. For FNJI, it means choosing more durable materials and using better craftsmanship. The product’s shape can withstand the test of time and can be used for a long time, even passed down from generation to generation.
On the other hand, sustainability means the reuse of existing materials that have been eliminated or discarded. For example, FNJI’s UPCYCLE plan is to redesign the remaining scrap leather materials from furniture and turn them into daily household products. FNJI has already started using the fabric woven from recycled fabrics this year.
Regarding innovation, firstly, furniture is closely related to people, and all innovation is related to people’s lifestyles. The constantly changing lifestyle will guide innovative furniture products. Secondly, better material research and technological innovation are also an important part of the innovation in the furniture industry. When the first curved wooden board was introduced, it was supported by countless new processes and materials. Such innovation will have cross generational significance, and in my opinion, it can only be called true innovation.
